Mark Hartman is Phoenix's chief sustainability officer, charged to support Phoenix’s continual efforts in becoming a global leader in sustainability. In 2021, Phoenix City Council updated the City’s Climate Action Plan to have carbon-neutral electricity for City Operations by 2030 as part of the long-term goal of becoming a carbon-neutral city, operating on 100% clean energy, zero waste, a 100-year supply of water, clean air, parks and transit in every neighborhood, and a vibrant local food system. Mark formerly worked at the City of Vancouver for eight years in sustainability, leading their carbon-neutral buildings strategy and their green building code as well as supporting Vancouver's ambition to become the greenest city in the world by 2020. Mark holds an MBA from Heriot-Watt University and is a LEED accredited professional.
