Melisa Johns serves as vice president of distributed energy solutions and regulated renewables development for Duke Energy. She is responsible for leading the asset development of renewable facilities for Duke Energy’s regulated utilities as well as creating sustainable and resiliency solutions for large commercial and industrial customers across the U.S. In this role, Melisa leads teams responsible for distributed energy sales and business development, asset development and acquisitions, engineering, financing, structuring, construction management and operations. She assumed her current position in February 2022.

Melisa has held a variety of leadership roles at Duke Energy including developing strategy for the emerging technology team and directing the company’s technology demonstration projects. She led the wholesale origination team in executing long-term sales contracts and procuring supply-side resources. In addition, Melisa has experience in system planning and operations, power delivery, regulatory affairs and business planning.

In 2014, Melisa led efforts to create the regulated renewables development team to develop portfolios and investment opportunities in solar, combined heat and power, and microgrid and energy storage. This team also created new customer programs, providing regulated customers innovative solutions to help meet their sustainability goals.
She earned a Bachelor of Science and Master of Science in electrical engineering from Clemson University. She has also completed the Strategic Leadership Program at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

Melisa serves as board chair for the Joules Accelerator and is on the board of directors for the Southeastern Wind Coalition.
