Diversity and Inclusion Policy:
Apex is committed to building and maintaining a diverse and inclusive workforce, including (but not limited to) hiring, retaining, and promoting women and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color).
The company requires all employees to engage in annual diversity, inclusion, and ant-bias training, in addition to anti-harassment and discrimination training. To ensure a broad range of applicants for full-time positions, the Human Resources team engages with a number of strategic partners:
- Society of Women Engineers
- Women of Renewable Industries and Sustainable Energy
- DoD SkillBridge
- Hiring our Heroes
- Veterans in Energy
- American Association of Blacks in Energy
- International Rescue Committee
- Hispanics in Energy
- National Society of Black Engineers
- National Black MBA Association
- Ron Brown Scholar Program
- UVA Black Law Students Association
These partnerships and other recruitment efforts have increased diversity among applicants, full-time hires, and the intern program. The diversity of the 2021 intern cohort is shown in the above pie chart. Of that group, 46% were women.
Apex’s DEI workstreams and current success variables cover General Business (Supply Chain, Outreach, and Communication); Training (Storytelling and Interviews); Employee Relations (Retention and Mentoring); Recruiting (Interview Panels and Network/Partner Diversity); and Rewards (Compensation and Data).
Apex is proud to work with small and local businesses wherever possible. Apex recently conducted a Vendor Diversity Questionnaire to ensure diverse businesses are being included in the company supply chain. Of 184 surveys sent, 60 were returned, achieving a return rate of 33%. Results showed that of those 60 respondents:
- 46% were small businesses
- 59% use diverse companies/subcontractors to service or supply Apex with products
- 46% have a diversity plan in place.
Going forward, Apex will continue to use its Supplier Diversity Program to ensure suppliers are chosen in the most equitable way possible, by being conscious and inclusive of diversity.
